Adding Mxit Contacts to Gtalk is not the easiest of thing I've done in the past year or so, the reason being that with Mxit contacts, not all of the contacts have the same easy way of adding them.
With Gmail contacts, they had an easy extension, with just the "@gmail.com" added to them, but with Mxit contacts it's a little bit more tricky.
First of all, you need to find out what the contact's Mxit number is. With that sorted out, you can start adding contacts. Please be aware that there are up to 3 different extensions adding contacts and only one will work.
The best bet will be with to add "@mxit.co.za" at the end, after the number. Don't forget to replace the 0 in front of the number with 27 (do not add the +)
So a 0821234567 number you want to add to Mxit will look like this: 27821234567@mxit.co.za
Another extension to try, if the first one fails is to add a "m1." before "mxit.co.za". So the number will then look like this: 27821234567@m1.mxit.co.za
To save time and frustration, you can add both extensions and wait to see which one they accept and then just deleting the other one. adding both won't clash with each other.
An alternative would be is to ask the Mxit contact to add you from their side.
The steps would be:
1) Menu
2) Contacts
3) Add Contact
4) Google Talk
5) Add your ID (with @gmail.com included in the ID)
6) Accept
